Elimination Period (number of days of disability before benefits begin) Short-term disability benefits begin after completion of a 7 day (5 business day) elimination period. On the 8 th day of disability, benefits start and continue for related absences up to a maximum of 26 weeks. During the elimination period, unused sick or PTO leave accrued as of the last day worked must be used except in DC or CA where you may elect to use unpaid leave. If you do not have sufficient leave available to cover your absence during the elimination period, you will be placed in an unpaid leave status for those days. During the elimination period, if you appear for jury duty or are required to appear in court as a witness, you will receive your hourly rate of pay for your regularly scheduled work hours that day, in addition to any compensation you may receive from the court. During the elimination period, bereavement leave hours will be paid at your hourly rate of pay for your regularly scheduled work hours that day.
